Areas of central and south central Minnesota, including Burnsville and Dakota County, are under a Red Flag Warning.

According to the National Weather Service, a red flag warning is issued when:

Critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

Temperatures in the Twin Cities have been unusually high. On Tuesday, the mercury is expected to reach 90 degrees for the 31st time this year. Forecasters say that highs in Burnsville could reach into the low 90s on Tuesday, with breezy conditions—a dangerous combination.

The warning is in effect until 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
