Just like clockwork, a rain shower marked the 3 p.m. starting time for the International Festival of Burnsville Saturday.

But festival organizers were prepared, as they already decided to move activities from Nicollet Commons Park to the adjacent Performing Arts Center. Signs announcing the change in venue greeted festival-goers as they arrived at the Nicollet Avenue facility.

The skies brightened soon after the start of the festival, but dark clouds to the west threatened more showers. The evening’s weather turned out to be calm and clear.

Shortly after 3 p.m., Cyril Paul and the Calypso Monarchs opened the live-performance portion of the festival on the PAC main theater. Nearly a dozen performers were scheduled to follow.

A surprise visitor greeted residents who visited the children’s activities area on the second floor of the PAC. Minnesota Twins all-time great Tony Oliva was at the team’s community relations booth signing hats, bats and bobbleheads.
