Parents Talk: What Are the Creepiest Kids Toys?
Is there a toy you avoid buying because it’s too creepy or scary?
I swear it was possessed.
That furry little menace always sat idly and quiet on my daughter’s shelf when she was younger. However, the minute I walked into her room or even just walked by, Furby would start talking and doing his creepy thing.
It wouldn’t have been a toy I would have ever brought into our home willingly – just the gremlin-like look of it was disturbing enough. It was one of those gifts from a relative that you try to tolerate – for a while.
Eventually Furby happened to find its way into the bottom of the box of toys during a move. To this day, I’m still fairly certain I removed Furby’s batteries before it went into the box. The minute we loaded the boxes in the van, we could still hear Furby trying to interact with us from inside the box. It was just plain weird.
After that, I decided Furby would never make appearance around the house again. It sits in the basement with a bunch of other old toys, perhaps just waiting for the day when it sees daylight again.
The sad thing is, creepy toys seem to span every generation. It’s those toys that you look at and say to yourself, “What were they thinking?”
This week, we ask you – What creepy or scary toys managed to make its way into your home? Which ones do you avoid buying? Tell us in comments!
Speaking of creepy toys, don’t even get me started on clowns…..

The creepiest ones I've seen were toy rocket-propelled grenade launchers in the Baghdad markets. In a country where real-world RPGs were used in the same neighborhoods, why would anyone want their children to play with those?

Anything with a clown in it, on it, or anywhere near it.

But why did they smell so bad?

I'd say dolls are the creepiest. If you've ever been in an "American Girl" store (I was with my kid sister...I swear), you can't help but feel all the beady eyes staring into your soul. Plus, Chucky was a doll.

I have to agree with Mike, though I generally love dolls. I have a friend whose ex-wife collected extremely lifelike baby dolls, with real human hair and everything. You'd walk into their house and be overwhelmed by hundreds of cold, glassy eyes.

I'm with Lisa – clowns are, hands down, the creepiest!

My daughter had a $5 plastic guitar from Target that would play music when you pressed the buttons. Somehow it got stuck on "play" mode and would not stop. We banished it to the basement, but I got to visit it anytime I went downstairs to do laundry. It played almost constantly for 6 months. I joked that we had conjured the spirit of Janis Joplin into our home. But, seriously, that was some battery life for a cheap guitar!

When I was little I had that talking life-size doll called Cricket. She had blonde hair, blue eyes and was cute as an---er bug---but her eyes moved from side to side too. Years later she got stuffed to the back of my closet because at one point her eyes kept moving back and forth and her mouth would open and close without any sound. I removed the batteries and cassette tape in her back, but she still did it. It was so very, very creepy and no longer a fun toy.

Clowns are a given, IMO. Anyone remember Teddy Ruxpin? I think anything that "talks" on its own is pretty scary.

What did Teddy Ruxpin say? I can't remember.

Furbys and the Bratz dolls are creepy to me.
