Another Enters the Fro-Yo Fray: Freeziac Opens

Thursday is the grand opening of Freeziac, the second self-serve yogurt bar to open in the last month.

This week Burnsville will be blessed with yet another self-serve frozen yogurt bar, Freeziac Live Culture—which describes itself as an "innovative, frozen yogurt phenomenon with a mod, hip feel."

After three years of existence, the chain is expanding throughout the Twin Cities region. Freeziac's first location opened in 2009 in Eden Prairie, followed by a coveted spot at the Mall of America in 2010, and a third storefront in Plymouth in 2011. This year, Freeziac is doubling up: So far, the company has debuted frozen yogurt bars in Maple Grove and Woodbury in addition to its new Burnsville store.

Freeziac's burst of growth is concurrent with CherryBerry, a in Minnesota. CherryBerry opened a Burnsville location late last month.

Freeziac is similar in concept: Patrons are invited to build their own frozen yogurt sunday, which is then priced based on weight. Freeziac offers 10 flavors of live culture frozen yogurt, including two "tart" varieties, and about 50 toppings. For the grand opening, the company is partnering with . On Thursday only, proceeds on each 16 oz. cup of frozen yogurt will go to the agency. The charity event runs from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Burnsville's Freeziac location is at 1609 W. County Road 42.
