Former Burnsville resident and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn announced today that she is dating Tiger Woods, the golf superstar who, despite dropped sponsorships, is still the third-highest paid athlete in the world.

"I guess it wasn't a well-kept secret but yes, I am dating Tiger Woods," Vonn (or her publicists) wrote on her Facebook page. "Our relationship evolved from a friendship into something more over these past few months and it has made me very happy.

The announcement prompts a couple questions.

First, are Vonn and Woods the "most accomplished sports couple on the planet," as the Star Tribune claims? Sure, the Buck Hill alumna holds two Olympic medals and four overall World Cup titles and, yes, Tiger Woods is Tiger Woods. It seems easy to declare them greater than Nomar Garciaparra and Mia Hamm, or Venus Williams and her golfer boyfriend Hank Kuehne, but it's hard to deny that Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi give Vonn and Woods a run for their money.

Second, what "Brangelina"-style name mashup should the pair be saddled with? Can you beat Liger?

Vonn, 28, and Woods, 37, both asked for privacy in Facebook posts.

“Something nice that’s happened off the course was meeting Lindsey Vonn," Woods (or his publicists) wrote. "Lindsey and I have been friends for some time, but over the last few months we have become very close and are now dating. We thank you for your support and for respecting our privacy.”
