The Burnsville Police Department is investigating a shooting death that occurred in the wee hours  of Dec. 31.

At 2:44 a.m. officers were called to a shooting at address in the 12700 block of Nicollet Avenue South, Sgt. Rory Bochniak said. Inside, officers found the victim — a male whose identity has not yet been released. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Initial reports suggested that the victim was suffering from a self-inflicted gun shot wounds. However, there is some question as to how the shooting occurred. The BPD has arrested a party on suspicion of first-degree manslaughter. Bochniak said the BPD is awaiting results from the Dakota County Coroner.
